Mental Health First Aid

Depression. Anxiety. Substance abuse. These are but a few of the mental health
challenges people in Colorado struggle with every day. In fact, one out of four people you
meet has struggled with a mental health problem at some point.
Mental disorders are more common than heart disease and cancer combined.

Mental Health First Aid is a 12-hour, innovative, hands-on course designed to give you the tools necessary to recognize mental health problems and the skills to help. Just as CPR training helps a layperson assist an individual in a physical emergency, Mental Health First Aid training helps a layperson assist someone experiencing a mental health crisis. You’ll learn more about specific mental health problems and develop a concrete action plan to help someone in a mental health or substance abuse crisis until appropriate professional care is available.

You will learn:

• The warning signs and risk factors for depression, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychotic disorders, eating disorders, & substance use.
• A 5-step action plan to help an individual in crisis connect to professional care.
• Resources available to help someone with a mental health
  problem.
   

Cost: $50 per participant. This includes 4 classes, Mental Health First Aid book, sandwiches and refreshments.

All who complete the course receive a certificate of completion.
