Rupert Cutler-Wilderness: Yesterday and Today

Rupert Cutler of Roanoke, Virginia, was the Assistant Executive Director of The Wilderness Society during the Lyndon Johnson Administration (1965-69) and the Assistant Secretary of Agriculture for Natural Resources during the Jimmy Carter Administration (1977-1980). He has been instrumental in wilderness stewardship issues throughout his career. Rupert’s presentation will touch on the full arc of the Wilderness Act and its positive impact on our country – from the advocates who pushed for its passage in the 60s; to the Wilderness areas we cherish today; to the future of Wilderness and its importance to our national psyche in the 21st century.
