Name: Rocky Mountain Mile High Men’s Exhibit, and Impressions - The Maynard Westlake Solo Exhibit
Date: January 18, 2022 - April 16, 2022
Event Description:
Rocky Mountain Mile High Men’s Exhibit is the museum’s 16th exhibit of quilts made by men since its opening in 1990. This biennial tradition lives on as our visitors love seeing quilts made by men! In this year’s show, we are excited to have three young quilters, two of which have their quilting beginnings in our popular summer Kids Kamp. Look for their inspirational stories and amazing quilts. Our lineup of quilters include many who have exhibited quilts in prior years. There were thirty-one entrants and sixty-seven quilts submitted for this show. The quilts exhibit an incredible range of technique, passion, and tell intriguing stories. We thank juror, Greg Katz, for his time and effort in selecting quilts that make this show another huge success! Hailing from Graham, Texas the work of Maynard Westlake’s exhibit focuses on his collection of quilts inspired by Impressionist artists such as Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh. In addition to his art quilts, Maynard also has created a collection of traditional quilts. A former accountant, he became enthused about quilting when he started assisting his quilter wife with her quilting projects. Initially, he cut her fabric into tiny quilt pieces, eventually creating his own designs. His inspirations have come from their travels abroad or from artwork such as a coffee cup of Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.
