Date: April 28, 2021 - July 17, 2021
Event Description:
In the Main Gallery: Jackie Grimaldi | Every Stitch Matters Jackie Grimaldi, a native Coloradan, calls Steamboat Springs her home. She learned her sewing skills from her mother, a 4H leader for half a century. Jackie, a life-long sewist, has spent years developing her unique and beautiful style. Jacki has been the driving force behind the promotion of quilt exhibits at the Routt County Fair for years and has participated in quilt exhibits at Colorado’s State Capitol, Houston Quilt Festival, as well as the Steamboat Art Museum. She has won awards for her excellence in quilting. In the Northeast Gallery: Barbara Yates Beasley | Walk on the Wild Side A love for the animal kingdom has always been a guiding principle in Barbara Yates Beasley’s fabric collages. From a wild collection of fabric emerges the personality of her subjects. Many animals sport crazy colors that express their freedom to be themselves, and not just be a part of the pack. Beasley was born into a family of needleworkers. Barbara grew up on Sugarloaf Mountain, just outside Boulder, Colorado, filled with handwork crafted by her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The quilts and textile arts in the home and the dogs, goats, rabbits, and chickens outside the home influenced her early on. Beasley’s love of animals and color started this leg of the journey. Add to that a love of fabric, both commercial and hand-dyed and you have a 10- year long love affair that shows no sign of stopping.
